Heinlein describes loss of manners as attributes of a sick society and dying culture. I say that when you find on YT that a clip of something horrible or plain dumb and senseless has millions of views compared to views of clips like The Golden Buddha story then that has more significance than to that of a riot.
Love this so much. Thank you. Finding neverland free online.

Finding joe hero's journey. 10 /10 Just get it and watch it - very inspiring! I saw some poor reviews and thought that I should add my 0. 02. This movie is very inspiring and I highly recommended it to everybody. This is definitely a diamond-in-the-rough type of movie. Just get it, watch it, and you will be inspired to follow your bliss. One of the scenes talked about Joseph Campbell advice to his graduating students. He said "Don't do what Daddy says. Because Daddy has one interest in mind for you - your security. And if you bargain away your life for security now, you will NEVER find your bliss. Joseph Campbel quote: The job of science is to give you an image of the universe - what it's like, what it actually is like. This changes from decade to decade. There's no science that says, I've found the truth. It's a working hypothesis and the next season we'll have another structure. The problem of mythology is to relate that found truth the the actual living of a life. The myth has to deal with the cosmology of the day and it's no good when it's based on a cosmology that's out of date. That's one of our problems. I don't see any conflict between religion and science. Religion has to accept the science of the day and penetrate it to the mystery. The conflict is between the science of 2000 BC and the science of 2000 AD. This is one of the problems with our tradition, where our inherited mythology, the Judeo-Christian tradition, relates to the near east in the first millennium BC and has nothing to do with life here. Everything has to be explained. A mythological image that has to be explained to the brain is not working. When you move through a culture field that is so alien to your own that the images don't click on a response and a recognition then you're out of sync. " 5 out of 5 found this helpful. This film was a beautiful and inspiring exploration of the Hero's Journey mythology, first explained by Joseph Campbell. I felt that this film really pulled together elements of storytelling the Hero's Journey cycle that made it appealing and engaging for both myself, and my two children (8 and 12. There is a broad appeal across gender and age. The interviewees in the film come from a broad range of background and life experience, and I think nearly anyone could identify and really feel themselves being spoken to through the words of the different people who share their stories. I think that this is something that explains Joseph Campbell's work in a modern, personal way, I am so glad to have seen it, and feel so excited to share this film with more people in my life. 3 /10 Disservice to a great legacy A bunch of people trying to tell us what Joseph Campbell was telling us. If you really want to hear the great man's message, do yourself a favor and watch any of these instead: The Hero's Journey: The World of Joseph Campbell (1987) Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth (1988) Mythos (1985) Joseph Campbell: Sukhavati (2005) Thinking Allowed: Understanding Mythology (1987) Finding Joe is just — and there is no other way to put it — boring. 7 out of 8 found this helpful. 6 /10 A good message at least. Warning: Spoilers It pains me to write anything less than a stellar review for any film promoting the works of Joseph Campbell but I need to be honest here in saying that I didn't think it was a very good way of introducing people to Joe's work. Pros: This film does go over many of Joe's basic teaching's mostly from "The Hero's Journey. Most importantly even if you have heard it all before it will likely make you think about some important things you have forgotten or lost sight of in your life, just seeing the film pulled my friend out of a depression phase he was in. It interviews an interesting range of people from philosophers to Tony Hawk. The film is technically very well done, clean images and good sound with the small exception of a few edit points where we see peoples lips moving after they stop talking for a brief moment that only a quick eye would notice. Cons: The film has a feel similar to the distasteful works of "What the Bleep do We Know" and other self help style movies, although there is no pseudo science involved. The music score and over used shots of people smiling in slow motion make much of the movie feel like an advertisement. I didn't care for the use of children in costumes to portray some of the concept in the film, but it might make sense considering this is like a child's view of Joe's work. Also it should probably be called "Losing Joe. After the very brief bio with some stills of Joe all we ever see is his quotes. Not one clip of him speaking or any in depth look at his heroes Journey. I know that the director wanted to make it a story about how he found Joe but that doesn't come through in the movie either. Overall: The movie has a good message and if you want to see Joe's work spread to more people than you should support this effort. I would however think that showing the Bill Moyer's interviews to the Joe uninitiated would be a better start. 9 out of 11 found this helpful. The Story Behind Our Life's Story Inspiring and insightful. It reveals a depth of the human experience that reminds us of our own personal "call to adventure. to living our life in bliss, alive, and amazingly fulfilled. and the journey we take in getting there. For example, if you remember back to a time when you were a teenager, when you we were all coming of age, seeking independence from our parents, and first striking out on our own. We may or may not have know what we desired in venturing out into the world alone, but we all felt that healthy sense of anxiety and yet a deep profound knowing inside that even though it may be scary, we must forge ahead and venture out in the world and create a life for ourselves. This is our journey, our common path that binds us together. It is expressed in our stories and movies over and over and over again, and provides the access to life fulfilled. It spoke to the voice inside me of my higher purpose, a sense of something bigger than myself, a sense of what we are all here for. A sense of fulfillment and trusting in this journey we call life. It was deeply moving and touches on the quiet truth that we all have inside, our highest and best selves longing to be unearthed and the story of it unfolding. 5 out of 6 found this helpful. 8 /10 Inspirational I hadn't heard of Joseph Campbell prior to seeing "Finding Joe" but after watching the movie, and being inspired, I'm looking more closely at his work. His quotes resonant with me on a spiritual and intellectual level. There are quite a few that stand out like: The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are. It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble, there lies your treasure. And "Follow your bliss. which is a staple of the documentary. The film's incredible message is perpetuated by these quotes and commentary by a wide variety of professionals and others inspired by Joseph Campbell's teachings. Deepak Chopra, Mick Fleetwood, Akiva Goldsman, Catherine Hardwicke and Tony Hawk are just a few of the people who offer their insight into the hero's journey. On a technical level, the film is beautiful. The cinematography is breath-taking. Each shot was clearly calculated and executed. For a documentary, the resolution is astounding. So it was aesthetically pleasing to watch "Finding Joe. The running metaphor of a separate narrative was also very clever and well-executed. On a more personal level, I really connected with the film and its message. It's one of those movies that ignites epiphanies, because everyone can relate to the film's concept. All of the speakers in the film act as mentors and the audience members are mentees. The people in the film expand on Joseph Campbell's philosophies and in doing so relay the message that everyone needs to hear: Follow your bliss. Joseph Campbell was an extraordinary man who continues to inspire people and, with the help of this documentary, will continue to inspire people. 5 out of 7 found this helpful. A Well Made Tribute As an English Literature major I found Finding Joe a superb documentary. I whole-heartedly agree with the comment about the cinematography as well! It was stunning. Joseph Campbell was an intelligent mythologist as well as writer and he really knew how life was supposed to be lived. Campbell's influence is still very apparent in today's society thus I hope many people discover this film. This documentary showcases the "hero's journey" and the challenges the hero faces. This concept is universal and applies to everyone and all the interviewee's in the documentary share their own stories and adventures. Between the interviews and a group of adorable kids acting out the journey (even fighting bad guys with swords and the like) watching Finding Joe is a great way to discover your true self and the happiness within you. 2 out of 2 found this helpful. 4 /10 Joseph Campbell for dummies This movie will surely appeal to misfits and dreamers of all stripes. It starts off promisingly, introducing a few of Joseph Campbell's key ideas, and even a couple of his subversive ones. Unfortunately, it soon devolves into interviews with several men, most of whom have unconventional occupations, and all but one of whom are white. These men delight in lecturing the audience about the ups and downs and eventual success they achieved during their own "journeys. using a profusion of nauseating "you" statements instead of "I" statements. The takeaway from this - that you too can have a fulfilling life if you just do what you love - is nothing new and can be heard in your local college's career counseling office. Oh, but be prepared for the road to be rocky along the way. Heard that one before? This is by a director who made his living making commercials - it shows in his visual style. He has some talent in this area, but he should have left the writing to someone else. 6 out of 11 found this helpful. 1 /10 Awful The documentary lacks any maturity and overall is corny. Aside from that, the music or soundtrack set to the film is excruciatingly painful to listen to, making the film watching experience utterly unbearable. 1 out of 1 found this helpful. Great Experience What stood out to me most about this film is the cinematography. I don't usually notice these things, but it really stood out. The shots were well executed, and allowed the message of the documentary to flow smoothly; with visual representations of the message. I had heard about the book The Hero With A Thousand Faces, and nothing but great things. Then, when I came across Finding Joe, and saw it was about the Hero's Journey, I was intrigued. and pleased with what I found. Not only does it provide in- depth interviews from experts on both spirituality and success in life, but also delves into the workings of mythology, specifically the Hero's Journey, and the most fascinating aspect of this documentary. how it applies to us. I really enjoyed this documentary and recommend a viewing! 9 /10 Wonderful and Inspiring Such an inspiring and interesting documentary that left an indelible impression on me. It inspires me to better face my challenges, take risks and realize my potential. I think they should show this movie to all college freshmen as they begin their adult life and are trying to figure out what they want to be when they grow up. The unusual approach they take with using children to act out stories/myths in the beginning was a bit distracting in the beginning, but became more meaningful as the movie progressed. I thought the people they interviewed were delightful. I loved their comments and stories which pulled me into their lives and made me want to know more. It's a well done movie and will likely be one of the most influential to me personally that I've seen this year. Not all entertainment, so don't expect it to be full of action. But expect to learn, and to be touched on a deep level. 0 out of 0 found this helpful. No redeeming virture I felt like I was being forced to sit through an 80 minute sermon on the gospel of Joe, complete with the corny children's program and bad music. Apparently pursuing your bliss is pretty much limited to White Upper Class Males. Couldn't you find someone whose 'bliss' actually contributed to society? Let's take as our role models a rock band drummer, a post-adolescent skateboarder and a surf-bum. How inspirational is that? 1 out of 2 found this helpful. Permalink.

He would be better advised to abandon exact science, put away his scholar's gown, bid farewell to his study, and wander with human heart through the world. There in the horrors of prisons, lunatic asylums and hospitals, in drab suburban pubs, in brothers and gambling-halls, in the salons of the elegant, the stock exchanges, socialist meetings, churches, revivalist gatherings and ecstatic sects, through love and hate, through the experience of passion in every form in his own body, he would reap richer stores of knowledge than text-books a foot thick could give him, and he will know how to doctor the sick with a real knowledge of the human soul. Through interviews with visionaries from a variety of fields interwoven with enactments of classic tales by a sweet and motley group of kids, the film navigates the stages of what Campbell dubbed The Hero's Journey: the challenges, the fears, the dragons, the battles, and the return home as a changed person. Rooted in deeply personal accounts and timeless stories, Finding Joe shows how Campbell's work is relevant and essential in today's world and how it provides a narrative for how to live a fully realized life - or as Campbell would simply state, how to "follow your bliss.
